Glass Finish Bulletin No. 453

SUBJECT: All Glass Packaging Institute Finish Specification Drawings and General Specification Drawings.

Following review of all specification drawings by the Committee on Design and Specifications on October 17, 2001, the members determined that, consistent with current practices, the following change should be incorporated on the drawings:

A new double-digit numbering system will be used from this date forward for all drawing revisions. This new numbering system will be implemented when a drawing is revised. The numbering system will consist of the Glass Finish Number and the number of revisions since its inception.

Example: GPI drawing number 15, Glass Finish Number 1, upon its next revision will be renamed to “1-06”, indicating the sixth revision to this specification.

Glass Packaging Institute drawings are intended to provide a voluntary basis for achieving compatibility and interchangeability between manufacturers and users of glass containers and closures. The actual container and closure designs used by manufacturers may differ from these standardized specifications however, and it is the user’s responsibility to make the final determination as to design and compatibility. It is understood that every company remains free to manufacture any container with any finish of its choosing, whether or not GPI has approved, disapproved or not considered a drawing for the particular design.
