Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Clear Choice Awards?

Since 1989, the Clear Choice Awards has honored consumer product goods (CPG) manufacturers who expand the frontiers of glass packaging design by using glass containers in innovative ways. Sponsored by the Glass Packaging Institute, this is the only Awards program that recognizes the contribution glass packaging makes to the image and success of everyday products. From sparkling water to salsa, baby food to bottled fruit juices, beer to flavored rums, pasta sauce to pickles, the Clear Choice Awards are presented to products that triumph in glass.

How do I submit my glass packaged product for a chance to win a Clear Choice Award?

Fill out a call-for-entries submission form. There is no entry fee. All entries must be postmarked by July 10, 2010.

What are the categories for the 2010 Clear Choice Awards?

GPI will be awarding top package designs in the following categories: Beer; Wine; Food; Carbonated Beverage; Non-Carbonated Beverage; Distilled Spirits; Flavored Alcoholic Beverage; Organic Food or Beverage; Fragrance/Cosmetics/Other; and Overall Package Design. If your company has switched to glass from an alternative packaging material, let us know! Your product may be eligible for our Conversion Recognition.

What are the benefits of receiving a Clear Choice Award?

All 2010 Clear Choice Awards winners will receive an award and benefit from industry-wide recognition and brand building media coverage. All 2010 winning products will be displayed at InterBev 2010 (September 22 - 24) in Orlando, FL, and at The Showcase of Packaging Innovations® at PACK EXPO International 2010 (October 31 - November 3) at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL.

How are the winners selected?

All entries are judged on innovation (in container form and product category), package design (including container, label, and closure), and shelf impact by a distinguished panel of judges. 2010 judges include:

  • Dan Matauch, Principal/Creative Director, Flowdesign, Inc.
  • Dennis Young, CPP, Specialist, Michigan State University (MSU) School of Packaging
  • Joe Pryweller, Managing Editor, Packaging Strategies
  • Mark “Coach” Smallwood, Green Mission Specialist, Whole Foods
  • Yousef Zaatar, VP Operations, Z International

When will the winners be announced?

Because of the success of last year’s event, we will again hold a virtual Clear Choice Awards event in 2010. Clear Choice Awards winners will be announced on the GPI website www.gpi.org the week of September 12, during GPI’s Recycle Glass Week. During Recycle Glass Week, GPI will also hold glass recycling events in many states across the U.S. Keep checking back for more ways you can participate!

What is the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI)?

The Glass Packaging Institute is the trade association representing the North American glass container industry. Through GPI, the glass container manufacturers speak with one voice to advocate industry standards, promote sound environmental and recycling policies, and educate packaging professionals.
