Find out how YOU can get involved.

Recycle Glass Week kicks off on September 21st and we’re gearing up for nationwide events to celebrate and encourage glass container recycling. Start with these “top 10” ways to make your mark during Recycle Glass Week:

  1. Choose glass, recycle your glass container, and then tell a friend about the benefits of glass bottle recycling. Hint: Glass is endlessly recyclable. Don’t know where to recycle glass in your community? Use the Earth911 locator on GPI’s web site.

  3. Spread the word. Get a Recycle Glass Week t-shirt. There are t-shirts for everyone—from babies to bartenders. Check it out
  4. Recycle your glass bottles and jars at home curbside? Use our carbon calculator to find out how much energy you save recycling your glass.
  5. Help set up a one-time collection event for glass bottles and jars in your neighborhood during Recycle Glass Week. Or, work with local recycling officials (find on line through your local or state government) to establish a permanent recycling drop-off center that accepts glass containers. Find a local glass processor in your area to help make this happen. Then tell us about it to get featured on GPI’s web site.
  6. Calling all university students. Enter the GPI Recycle Glass YouTube Competition for a chance to win $2,000! For inspiration, check out last year’s winner.
  7. Encourage your school or business to recycle glass bottles. If you’re not recycling glass containers at school, office building, manufacturing plant, restaurant, hotel, or wherever you spend your day, talk to building maintenance or a recycling coordinator at your place of business. See how bars, restaurants, and hotels are recycling glass across the U.S.
  8. Be a “glass ambassador”. Distribute information on glass recycling—how it works, how it benefits the environment, and getting started. Contact GPI for print and on-line glass recycling information
  9. Contact local recycling officials (find on line through your local or state government) to let them know you want to start or expand glass recycling where you live. And check out what your state recycling organization is doing to encourage glass recycling.
  10. Are you a local recycling coordinator? Want to start or expand your community’s glass recycling? Find a local glass processor in your area to help make this happen. Or, contact GPI for more details about local glass markets or how to set up an infrastructure for recycling glass bottles and jars.
  11. Have your own great idea? Tell us about it.

During Recycle Glass Week, GPI and its member companies will also hold nationwide activities around glass recycling. Keep checking the GPI website to see how you can participate in these events as well.
