Glass container recycling/sustainability achievements
Eden Foods was selected as the best food company in the world and the third best company overall by The Better World Shopping Guide. They acknowledged Eden’s outstanding record in social and environmental responsibility. The company earned A+ and A ratings in ten food categories.
“One of our founding principles is sustainability. It guides us today,” said Sue Becker, Marketing Director. “Eden values its precious relations with USA family farms. We are committed to sustainability as our work reflects. It’s an honor to be recognized for our care of the planet and people’s food.”
In January of 2011, Eden Foods introduced protective amber glass jars of organic crushed tomatoes and sauces in their line of shelf stable organic tomatoes. They are the only tomatoes in the U.S. packed in amber glass, protecting flavor and nutrients from light damage. The driving force at Eden Foods for these amber glass jars of tomatoes was the avoidance of bisphenol-A (BPA).
Other Recycling/Sustainability achievements
In 1993 Eden pioneered and perfected a process to avoid genetically engineered organisms and their derivatives in food. In 2010, they introduced the first soymilk in North America to be verified complaint with the Non-GMO Project’s standards for avoiding GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms).
Eden Foods has received the Responsible Packaging Award based on the Responsible Packaging Guidelines for the Organic Industry, a collaboration headed by Whole Foods Markets Green Mission’s Responsible Packaging Forum. In 2008, they completed a 70,000 ft2 Michigan Warehouse addition that reflects their commitment to sustainable growth and follow LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) principles. This warehouse meets a gold LEED certification level, the second highest possible rating.
Eden organic foods have also been selected by Men’s Health magazine and Women’s Health magazine as “Best Foods for Women” and “Best Foods for Men.”
Future Plans
To continue to provide the highest quality life supporting food and accurate information about them, their uses, and benefits. To continue to have a strong, positive impact on farming practices and food processing techniques used throughout the world.
