About Pete’s New Haven Style Apizza

A chef-driven Italian restaurant group specializing in New Haven style pizza and fresh, all-natural pastas, salads, panini, beverages and desserts. Founded in 2008 in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington DC, the company now also has locations in Friendship Heights (DC) and Clarendon (VA).

Glass container recycling/sustainability achievements

  • All beer and wine orders are served in glasses. Sparkling water, orange drinks, iced teas and other soda beverages are sourced from companies that use glass containers.
  • Tables are bussed by staff, rather than customers, to ensure that glass containers are recycled rather than tossed in the trash. This includes wine and beer bottles that are poured by staff as well as by the customer.

Other Recycling/Sustainability Achievements

  • We source ingredients locally whenever possible.
  • All to-go orders are packaged in recyclable materials. To-go beverage cups and flatware are bio-degradable.
  • The restaurant recycles its cardboard packing materials.
  • We serve all dishes in-house on real china, and flatware is stainless steel. No paper plates, no plastic flatware.
  • We deploy signage to encourage customers to limit the use of paper products to only what is needed, and offer high-efficiency hand driers in the restrooms, rather than paper towels.
  • Wherever possible, we use high-efficiency lighting fixtures.
  • At our newest location, we use an electric Segway to deliver to the immediate neighborhood rather than a regular vehicle. The Segway uses about 8 cents worth of electricity per day, lightens the load of vehicular traffic on local roads, and puts out zero emissions.
  • We set a casual tone in our restaurants by building out spaces that are simple, comfortable and do not use large amounts of wood, stone or any rare or fine materials that are imported from long distances. We finish the walls with low-VOC paint.

Future Plans

Pete’s plans on opening a limited number of additional locations in the Washington DC area. It will remain family-owned and local, and will not be franchised.
