September is Recycle Glass Month
Alexandria, VA—September marks Recycle Glass Month 2011, the glass packaging industry’s initiative to encourage more glass recycling in an effort to meet its goal of using 50 percent recycled content in the manufacture of new jars and bottles by 2013. Recycle Glass Month was created following the success of Recycle Glass Week in 2010, which resulted in 55 events in 20 states generating 22 tons of collected glass.
The Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) is supporting Recycle Glass Month 2011 with the launch of the effort’s own Facebook page. The page provides an easy way for Recycle Glass Month participants to share their stories and photos of glass recycling success.
Also, GPI is offering promotional items to heighten awareness of the month, such as T-Shirts, stickers and buttons, for sale at www.CafePress.com/AskForGlass. The online shop features materials promoting both Recycle Glass Month 2011 and GPI’s Ask For Glass campaign.
In addition, GPI will celebrate Recycle Glass Month by announcing the 2011 Clear Choice Awards winners, who will have their entries featured at PACK EXPO 2011 in Las Vegas September 26-28, and recognize Friends of Glass, those organizations or persons that recycle glass or promote the recycling of glass as a way to better the environment. GPI will also be spreading the word about the recyclability of glass through op-eds and press releases.
