GPI hosts Bar/Restaurant Recycling tour in Indianapolis, Indiana

The Glass Packaging Institute hosted a special tour in Indianapolis, Indiana as part of Recycle Glass Week, showcasing how a group of 10 bars and restaurants are working together to divert as much as 10 tons of glass containers from the waste stream each month. Representatives of the Indiana Recycling Coalition, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and SustainIndy, learned how the program got started by Green Broad Ripple, a local community group. They also saw first hand how it produces a much cleaner feedstock for the glass container manufacturing process than single-stream when they toured Strategic Materials, Inc., a cullet processor that provides the roll-off container that is picked up twice a week.
