More than 28 million glass bottles and jars needlessly end up in landfills each year

The Don’t Trash Glass Program (DTG) is a partnership of the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) and Glass King Recycling to benefit the Glass Recycling Foundation (GRF).

DTG’s goal is to collect glass containers in city bars and restaurants and divert them from landfills to be recycled into new bottles, fiberglass, and more.  DTG will work with different sponsors and partners in the recycling and glass manufacturing supply chain to move the collected material to processing and end markets, and make contributions to the GRF based on the tons collected.  #DontTrashGlass

Don't Trash Glass (DTG) is a program of the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) in partnership with GlassKing Recycling, initially started in Phoenix, Arizona with a single sponsorship from Crescent Crown Distributing of Mesa, Arizona. The program organizes glass bottle pickup with city bars and restaurants to divert glass from landfills to be recycled into new bottles, fiberglass, and more.

Since its launch, DTG has expanded to the Chicago Area, where GPI anticipates the program will collect an average of about 20-plus tons per week. DTG aims to work with different sponsors and partners in the recycling and glass manufacturing supply chain to move the collected material to processing and end markets as well as make contributions to the Glass Recycling Foundation based on the tons collected.

Don't Trash Glass has received support from Lakeshore Recycling System (LRS), Strategic Materials Inc. (SMI) and O-I Glass.  Learn more about Don’t Trash Glass in Chicago in Resource Recycling, or follow the program’s latest progress on Twitter and Facebook.
