GPI President Scott DeFife's Statement on the passage of the Senate infrastructure deal
Statement from Scott DeFife, President of the Glass Packaging Institute (GPI), on the passage of the Senate infrastructure deal:
“GPI is pleased to see funding for recycling education and infrastructure included in the new Senate bipartisan infrastructure deal. These funds are a first step in addressing decades of under-investment in waste management and recycling, which are critical public utilities that are in need of federal support. While we applaud and support the inclusion of funds for the RECYCLE ACT (S. 923) and Section 302 grants under the Save Our Seas Act 2.0. there is much more to do. Education dollars can help reduce inbound contamination, and any funds that help communities maintain or expand municipal recycling are needed to help bolster the supply chain for recycled content for manufacturing. We look forward to continuing our work with Congress to understand the importance of diverting valuable recyclable material like glass away from landfills, reducing energy consumption and lowering carbon emissions.”
