Glass Packaging Institute Names Brian Brandstatter as Board Chair

Industry executive to help guide GPI’s strategy as demand grows for sustainable, high-quality packaging

Washington, D.C. – May 11, 2026 – The Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) is proud to announce the appointment of Brian Brandstatter, President and CEO of Ardagh Glass Packaging-North America, as Chair of its Board of Directors. A respected leader in the glass manufacturing industry, Brandstatter brings decades of experience and a strong commitment to advancing sustainable packaging solutions.

Brandstatter steps into the role at a pivotal moment for the industry, as demand accelerates for packaging solutions that align with health, sustainability and circularity – areas where glass continues to stand out. His leadership will help guide GPI’s strategic direction as the organization continues to advocate for policies and systems that strengthen recycling infrastructure and support long-term industry growth.

“Brian brings a rare combination of operational expertise, market insight and a deep understanding of where packaging is headed,” said Scott DeFife, President of GPI. “As expectations around sustainability and product integrity continue to rise, his leadership will help ensure glass remains at the forefront of that conversation.”

Throughout his career, Brandstatter has held key leadership roles across the glass manufacturing sector, with a focus on innovation, efficiency and market expansion. He has been an active voice within GPI and a consistent advocate for policies that enable effective recycling systems and responsible material choices.

“I am honored to take on this role at such an important time,” said Brandstatter. “The conversation around packaging is evolving quickly, and glass has a clear and compelling role to play. I look forward to continuing my work with GPI and its members to build on that momentum and expand the industry’s impact.”

GPI represents North America’s leading glass container manufacturers and works to position glass as a material that meets the moment. Through advocacy, research and education, the organization supports policies and initiatives that advance recycling, strengthen the circular economy and help brands align packaging choices with consumer expectations.
